Driving lessons & instructor training

Town & City Driving Lessons

Terms & Conditions

Last updated:

These terms explain the arrangements for driving lessons, instructor training and independent instructor support provided by Town & City Driving Lessons. Please read them before confirming a booking or joining our support package.

1. About us

Town & City Driving Lessons is a trading name of 1st Intensive Driving Ltd.

Address: 10 Portland Road, Selston, Nottinghamshire, NG16 6AU
Email: info@townandcitydrivinglessons.co.uk
Telephone: 0333 7722674

Where we refer you to a separate independent driving school, we will explain who is providing the service and who your agreement is with before you book. That provider’s terms will apply to their services.

2. Enquiries and bookings

Sending an enquiry does not confirm a booking. Bookings are confirmed once availability, price, duration and the relevant arrangements have been agreed with you.

Please provide accurate contact details and tell us about any changes that could affect your booking. Lesson availability depends on teaching area, instructor availability and your requirements.

3. Prices and payments

The total price and payment arrangements will be confirmed before you book. Any compulsory charges or applicable taxes will be included in the price we confirm.

Payments may be made in cash directly to Jon Shaw or by bank transfer to 1st Intensive Driving Ltd, using the payment details supplied by us.

Please pay by the date agreed when booking and use the payment reference we provide. You may request a receipt for your payment.

Price changes will be communicated before you agree to further bookings. They will not change the agreed price of lessons or training already booked and paid for.

4. Cancelling or rearranging lessons

Please give at least 48 hours’ notice to cancel or rearrange a lesson. Otherwise, the full lesson fee will be charged, reduced by any costs saved or income recovered from filling the slot.

The same approach applies if you do not attend a booked lesson. Any charge will reflect the loss caused by the missed booking and will not exceed the agreed lesson fee.

Contact us or your instructor using the agreed contact method as soon as you need to cancel. We will confirm receipt of your cancellation.

This policy does not override any statutory right to cancel your agreement.

5. Cancellations by us

We may need to cancel or rearrange a lesson because of illness, vehicle problems, unsafe weather or another circumstance affecting safe delivery. We will notify you as soon as reasonably possible.

If we cancel, you will not be charged for that lesson. You may choose to rearrange it or receive a refund of the payment for the cancelled lesson. This does not limit your statutory rights.

6. Your responsibilities

  • Hold a valid driving licence appropriate to the vehicle and meet the legal requirements for learning to drive.
  • Provide licence details for verification when requested.
  • Meet the legal eyesight requirements.
  • Attend at the agreed time and meeting place.
  • Be fit to drive and free from the effects of alcohol, drugs or medication that makes driving unsafe.
  • Tell your instructor about any relevant condition, restriction or change affecting your ability to drive safely.
  • Follow reasonable safety instructions and treat your instructor respectfully.

An instructor may stop or decline a lesson where continuing would be unsafe or unlawful. Any charge or refund will be assessed fairly in light of the circumstances and your legal rights.

7. Lesson delivery and driving tests

Lessons are planned around your experience, development and agreed learning needs. We will provide our services with reasonable care and skill.

We cannot guarantee a driving-test pass, a particular number of lessons or the availability of a test date.

Use of an instructor’s vehicle for a driving test must be agreed separately. Your instructor must be satisfied that you can drive safely and are ready for the test. Any test-day lesson or vehicle-use charge will be confirmed in advance.

DVSA test fees and booking arrangements are separate unless expressly included in your booking. Changes or cancellations by DVSA are subject to its own arrangements.

8. Advance payments and refunds

If you pay for lessons or training in advance and decide to stop, contact us to request a statement of the services used and any unused balance.

Refunds will take account of services already supplied and any fair cancellation charge that applies. We will explain any deductions. Advance payments are not automatically forfeited.

9. Consumer cancellation rights

If you book as a consumer online, by telephone or away from our business premises, you normally have a statutory right to cancel your service agreement within 14 days of entering into it, subject to any applicable legal exceptions.

To cancel, send us a clear statement by email, telephone or post using the contact details above. You do not need to give a reason.

If you want services to start during that period, we will ask for your express request. If you then cancel, you may have to pay a proportionate amount for services supplied before cancellation, where the legal requirements for that charge have been met.

Your statutory cancellation right ends once the service has been fully performed only if you expressly agreed to early performance and acknowledged that you would lose that right on full completion.

Any refund due under these cancellation rights will be made within the applicable statutory deadline, normally within 14 days of receiving your cancellation.

10. Instructor training

The scope, duration, price, payment arrangements and cancellation terms for instructor training will be confirmed before you book.

Training is designed to support your development. It does not guarantee an ADI examination pass, Standards Check result, qualification or employment.

DVSA application, examination and registration fees are separate unless expressly included in your agreed package.

11. Independent instructor support

Our instructor-support package is intended for instructors operating their own businesses. The fee, start date and payment schedule will be confirmed in your joining agreement.

Your business and website

You retain your own business identity and control of your prices, diary and teaching arrangements. We build a website around your driving school using the agreed business information and content.

You own the website we build for you. Any third-party software, fonts, images or other licensed materials remain subject to their respective licence terms. Please ensure you have permission to use any photographs, logos or other material you supply.

Training and ongoing support

  • Quarterly training workshops.
  • Ongoing marketing and training support from an experienced ORDIT trainer.
  • Five hours of one-to-one preparation training if you are called for a Standards Check while your membership is active.
  • An additional two hours of training if you fail that Standards Check.

Workshop and individual training dates are arranged by agreement. Training supports preparation but does not guarantee a Standards Check result.

Pupil enquiries

Your website gives prospective pupils a way to contact your business directly. We may also link to your website from Town & City pages for areas we do not cover.

Network members can share pupil enquiries, accepting enquiries others cannot accommodate and passing on enquiries they cannot cover. Personal details must only be shared lawfully, with the prospective pupil’s agreement where required.

We do not guarantee a particular number of enquiries, pupils, search rankings or earnings.

Leaving the package

You may leave by giving four weeks’ written notice by email. Package fees remain payable during the notice period.

Your website remains yours after you leave. You are responsible for organising its transfer and arranging and paying for ongoing hosting. Contact us during your notice period so the handover can be coordinated.

No payment holidays are included. Fees continue during holidays and periods when you choose not to teach.

12. Privacy

We handle personal information as explained in our Privacy Policy. Instructor-support enquiries are treated in the strictest confidence.

13. Complaints and your legal rights

If you are unhappy with a service, contact us with your booking details and a description of the issue. We will investigate and discuss an appropriate resolution with you.

Nothing in these terms removes your statutory rights or excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for fraud or death or personal injury caused by negligence.

14. Changes to these terms

Updated terms may apply to future bookings. We will not change an existing agreement retrospectively without your agreement, except where a change is required by law.
